Ship's Meeting Shady Oak BBQ, Ft. Worth, TX 1500 hours A fairly good turnout to what we're hoping will be the last REALLY HOT weather meeting for a while... of course, since this is Texas, we may have another three months of summer to deal with. Who knows, eh? In attendance today were 2LT Morrison, 2LT Roe, MCPO A. Goulet, RADM Goulet, LTC Marchant, CDR Clark, and RADM Clark. Once again we enjoyed good food & fun discussions -- on a personal note, I'm glad to report that Shady Oaks makes a good radler. (Radler is the German term for a mixture of beer and fruit soda or lemonade. Literally, it means "cyclist." The Europeans, being more civilized about these things than we Americans, view this crisp, sweet-tart beverage as Gatorade, essentially: a thirst-quenching sports drink.) Congrats to Mr. Morrison, who has agreed to assume the post of Gold Division Leader. We discussed many things at the meeting, including upcoming activities: a trip to the holodeck -- er, an Escape Room; Star Trek Movies & Gaming at the Haltom City Library; doing a Landing Party or two in December (Midway, and maybe Star Wars episode IX). We will have to do a brief Leadership Committee meeting in September to prepare for awards & promotions in October, as the ship celebrates our 27th anniversary since our commissioning. Mr. Roe has created a new commissary, at which we can buy all sorts of ship's swag and merchandise! Just keep an eye on the Ferengi running the cash register.

Around noon on Saturday 17 Aug, some of the crew gathered in Lt Roe's quarters to play Artemis Bridge Simulator (using Star Trek mods). Crew in attendance were 2LT Daniel Roe, 2LT Richard Morrison, Crewmen Randall Hermes, Commander Tracy Clark, and Rear Admiral Tank Clark; other nice folks (future recruits!) were there, too. After a fun pot-luck meal, we installed the game on Tank's laptop, and started out on a few cruises. The game itself was difficult at first, but quite fun. We played through a few scenarios, and before we knew it it was already 1700 hours, and time for the Clarks to return home. It was wonderful fun, and I hope we'll be able to do it again (with greater participation) soon. Clark, commanding Sea Tiger, out. Haltom City Public Library "Cape Carnival" End-of-Summer Reading Program celebration The crew of the mighty USS Sea Tiger sent a landing party to the library to talk to library patrons about STARFLEET, science fiction, science, and reading. In attendance (from left to right) were Master Chief Petty Officer Michelle Goulet, Second Lieutenant Daniel Roe, Rear Admiral Tank Clark, Commander Tracy Clark, Rear Admiral Liz Goulet, Master Chief Petty Officer Alan Goulet, and Crewman Randall Hermes. (Also present, but not appearing in this image, was Crewman Clinton Beam.) The library had a table all ready for us and we spread out all kinds of stuff related to Star Trek. There were many books (it’s a library…) some stuffed toys, models, comics, etc. And we even had a banner on the table and in the back ground. Lots of people came through and our opening question was “Do you know Star Trek”? And most of the time the reply was “Of course, I know Star Trek. I watched it as a kid or with my mom, etc.” And having started the conversation, it proceeded from there. Most people knew of us, they didn’t know we had a chapter in the area. Most of the little kids seemed to know of us. In fact one little girl went so far as to double check where the books were located in the library so she could check them out. All in all, we had a really good time and were sorry that the two hours they allowed us to stay went by so fast. We are planning to reserve the media room at the library, to show Star Trek movies & episodes and play board games. |
